Eye Candy of the Day: I love inter-library loan

If you've been wondering where I've been the past couple of days you can rest assured I'm not off on a bender inspired by Colin Firth's loss at the Oscars. No, I'd pretty well resigned myself to that a few weeks ago when a good friend of mine who is very good at Oscar predictions informed me that Jeff Bridges was a lock. I still held out hope, but I knew deep down Colin was like Ralph Nader in 2000 in that he was the latest in a long line of lost causes which I've supported. At least no one is going to blame me for George Bush getting elected this time.

Nope, I've been off in the library digging through old movie star biographies, reading plays and poems that relate to some of the movies I've been watching. I love inter-library loan. It's like Netflix for books. Check out this sa-weeet image from an out of print bio of Robert Donat. This is Robert Donat and Flora Robson in Mary Read, a stage production in 1934 at His Majesty's Theater. How much of a hottie was Flora in her riding pants and over the knee boots? Wow, and I always think of her as Queen Elizabeth!

Hi Jenny!

ILL as the Netflix for books. Wonderful. I have to pass that one on to our ILL.......may I?

And I would have never guessed Flora Robson was ever a hottie!

Thanks.

Please do edwards. Actually I stole that observation from a friend I lunch with. I was explaining the glories of ILL and he said, "So it's like Netflix?" It's not often ILL gets a shout out, is it?

Flora we neva knew ya!

And a great big thank you for the Robert Donat screen caps (plus today's "pleasure" pic). I've been trying to decide what music goes best with the caps and haven't found the right one yet.......thus ensuring that I get to look at them over and over and over..........

Many thanks again, Nora

Nora, I discovered recently that 39 Steps inspired Kate Bush's Hounds of Love, so maybe that's a good place to start.

Okay, as The Mandarin says, "many are confused", now so am I. I like the Youtube combination of 39 Steps with Hounds of Hell. But Hounds makes your screen caps bounce all over that wonderful tush (I could go on, but you might need a PG rating). So very confused, indeed. More research is needed. More RD is needed. Thank you for once again reminding me what a wonderful actor he was (and always will be thanks to the magic of film).

Nora, you have Alfred Hitchcock to thank for that. i merely made screen caps, he put Donat's backside in the middle of the frame for half a dozen shots.

Also, if you want more of that goodness (and who doesn't), I have five words for you: The Count of Monte Cristo!

I have another big Robert Donat post coming up soon, so stay tuned.

I love Inter-Library Loan! I discovered it in my last semesters at college and got completely addicted. It's the greatest thing ever.

It's funny because I had been noticing her over the knee boots and thinking how awesome they are.. and then I read the rest of the post. So, I totally agree with you there!
